Bespoke staircases in Wolverhampton
We take a fair volume of Open Riser Staircases work across Wolverhampton, and almost none of it repeats. Property here runs to Victorian industrial terraces, interwar municipal estates and large commercial frontages, and each of those brings its own set of dimensions. The weather does the rest: urban heat retention with high particulate load here, and surface soiling accelerating coating failure on street-facing elevations as the predictable result. The detail we will not compromise on is open treads that still satisfy the 100mm sphere rule under Part K.
We survey before anything is cut, so the schedule reflects the opening as built rather than as drawn. Tell us the problem rather than the solution and we will advise on both.
One local point to factor in: dense commercial stock means shopfront and contract joinery volumes are high.

Learn more →Rise, going and headroom in Wolverhampton
Three numbers decide whether a staircase is comfortable or awkward, and they are the first things we measure.
Rise
Maximum 220mm per step for a private stair under Part K. Consistent to within 5mm across the whole flight, because the foot notices what the eye does not.
Going
Minimum 220mm. Rise and going together must satisfy the pitch rule, which is why a flight cannot simply be shortened to fit a smaller opening.
Headroom
2m measured vertically from the pitch line. This is the constraint that most often forces a winder instead of a straight flight.
What clients tell us
Feedback collected directly from completed projects. Full written references are available on request before you commit.
“The headroom was tight and they redesigned the winder rather than telling us it could not be done.”
Verified client, West Midlands“Dry-assembled in the workshop first, so installation day was genuinely uneventful.”
Verified client, West Midlands“No squeaks at all a year on, which was the whole reason we replaced the old one.”

Can you match an existing profile?
Yes. If you can supply a section, a photograph with a rule in shot, or an old unit, we can replicate the profile. For conservation work this is usually the condition the planning officer will apply.
Will the finish need maintaining?
A factory-applied microporous finish typically needs inspection every three to five years, sooner on exposed coastal elevations. Maintaining it is far cheaper than letting a coating fail and the timber take up water.
Is the timber certified?
All our stock is FSC certified and chain-of-custody documentation is supplied with the order, which most main contractors and specifiers now require for their records.
Do you deliver nationwide?
Yes, we deliver across England, Wales and Scotland. Delivery is priced into the quotation so there is no separate charge added later.
Do you fit, or supply only?
Both. Supply-only is common for trade and contractor clients. For private clients we usually recommend supply and fit, because responsibility for the fit and the finish then sits in one place.
