What we do and how we do it
If Staircase Parts in the UK were straightforward, there would be a stock size for it. With a mix of period and modern stock making up much of the area, off-the-shelf sizes rarely line up. the full range of UK exposure conditions sets the pace of decay, and coating failure followed by rot at the joints is how it shows up first. The detail we will not compromise on is matched components for anyone doing their own installation.
Every job is measured on site first, because drawn sizes and built sizes are seldom the same. Tell us what you are working with and we will put a fixed figure in writing.
One thing that catches people out here: specification should always be matched to local exposure.

Rise, going and headroom
Three numbers decide whether a staircase is comfortable or awkward, and they are the first things we measure.
Rise
Maximum 220mm per step for a private stair under Part K. Consistent to within 5mm across the whole flight, because the foot notices what the eye does not.
Going
Minimum 220mm. Rise and going together must satisfy the pitch rule, which is why a flight cannot simply be shortened to fit a smaller opening.
Headroom
2m measured vertically from the pitch line. This is the constraint that most often forces a winder instead of a straight flight.

Every flight is calculated from the actual floor-to-floor height, measured on site.

Rise, going, headroom and guarding checked against Building Regulations before manufacture.

Frequently asked questions
What if the opening is out of square?
Most older openings are. The survey records the actual dimensions at several points and the unit is manufactured to suit, which is the main reason we survey rather than work from the sizes given over the phone.
Can you work on a listed building?
Yes, and a significant share of our work is listed or conservation area. We can supply drawings and section details to support a listed building consent or planning application, though the consent itself remains the owner's responsibility.
Can you match an existing profile?
Yes. If you can supply a section, a photograph with a rule in shot, or an old unit, we can replicate the profile. For conservation work this is usually the condition the planning officer will apply.
Do you deliver nationwide?
Yes, we deliver across England, Wales and Scotland. Delivery is priced into the quotation so there is no separate charge added later.
What guarantee do you provide?
Ten years on workmanship, covering manufacture and the factory-applied finish. Where we install, the installation is covered too. It is issued in writing with the handover paperwork.
How long does a typical order take?
Most made-to-size orders run six to ten weeks from survey to delivery. Conservation and heavily detailed work can take longer, and we confirm the lead time in writing at quotation rather than leaving it open.
How do you handle glazing?
Standard double glazed units for most work, and slim-cavity units where a conservation officer has restricted sightlines. Single glazing with putty lines is available where the consent requires it.
