Bespoke staircases in Birmingham
There is no standard version of Bespoke Staircases in Birmingham, which is rather the point. With Victorian industrial terraces, interwar municipal estates and large commercial frontages making up much of the area, off-the-shelf sizes rarely line up. Set against urban heat retention with high particulate load, most joinery here eventually shows surface soiling accelerating coating failure on street-facing elevations. Where we put the effort is setting out so the rise and going work on the day, not just on paper.
The survey happens before manufacture, which is why our units fit without packing or trimming. Send us sizes and a photograph and we will come back with a fixed written price.
Something particular to this area: dense commercial stock means shopfront and contract joinery volumes are high.

Learn more →Rise, going and headroom in Birmingham
Three numbers decide whether a staircase is comfortable or awkward, and they are the first things we measure.
Rise
Maximum 220mm per step for a private stair under Part K. Consistent to within 5mm across the whole flight, because the foot notices what the eye does not.
Going
Minimum 220mm. Rise and going together must satisfy the pitch rule, which is why a flight cannot simply be shortened to fit a smaller opening.
Headroom
2m measured vertically from the pitch line. This is the constraint that most often forces a winder instead of a straight flight.
What clients tell us
Feedback collected directly from completed projects. Full written references are available on request before you commit.
“The headroom was tight and they redesigned the winder rather than telling us it could not be done.”
Verified client, West Midlands“Dry-assembled in the workshop first, so installation day was genuinely uneventful.”
Verified client, West Midlands“No squeaks at all a year on, which was the whole reason we replaced the old one.”

Do you deliver nationwide?
Yes, we deliver across England, Wales and Scotland. Delivery is priced into the quotation so there is no separate charge added later.
Can you match an existing profile?
Yes. If you can supply a section, a photograph with a rule in shot, or an old unit, we can replicate the profile. For conservation work this is usually the condition the planning officer will apply.
Can you work on a listed building?
Yes, and a significant share of our work is listed or conservation area. We can supply drawings and section details to support a listed building consent or planning application, though the consent itself remains the owner's responsibility.
What if the opening is out of square?
Most older openings are. The survey records the actual dimensions at several points and the unit is manufactured to suit, which is the main reason we survey rather than work from the sizes given over the phone.
Do you fit, or supply only?
Both. Supply-only is common for trade and contractor clients. For private clients we usually recommend supply and fit, because responsibility for the fit and the finish then sits in one place.
