Bespoke staircases in Steyning

Staircase Parts is one of those jobs in Steyning where the survey decides everything. Because the area is mainly Sussex flint cottages, Regency seafront terraces and postwar new town housing, no two openings measure quite the same. Locally you are contending with strong coastal exposure with salt spray inland of the shoreline, so finish erosion on seaward elevations within a few years of coating is the fault we are called out to. This is really a job about matched components for anyone doing their own installation.

The survey happens before manufacture, which is why our units fit without packing or trimming. Send what you have, even if it is only a phone photo, and we will take it from there.

Bear in mind for this area: seafront properties need a shorter recoating cycle than inland equivalents.

Rise, going and headroom in Steyning

Three numbers decide whether a staircase is comfortable or awkward, and they are the first things we measure.

Rise

Maximum 220mm per step for a private stair under Part K. Consistent to within 5mm across the whole flight, because the foot notices what the eye does not.

Going

Minimum 220mm. Rise and going together must satisfy the pitch rule, which is why a flight cannot simply be shortened to fit a smaller opening.

Headroom

2m measured vertically from the pitch line. This is the constraint that most often forces a winder instead of a straight flight.

What clients tell us

Feedback collected directly from completed projects. Full written references are available on request before you commit.

“The headroom was tight and they redesigned the winder rather than telling us it could not be done.”

Verified client, West Sussex

“Dry-assembled in the workshop first, so installation day was genuinely uneventful.”

Verified client, West Sussex

“No squeaks at all a year on, which was the whole reason we replaced the old one.”

Steyning questions

Do you work in hardwood or softwood?

Both. Engineered hardwood is the default where movement or exposure is a concern, and slow-grown softwood is often the better value choice for painted work in sheltered positions. We will tell you which we would specify and why.

Do you deliver nationwide?

Yes, we deliver across England, Wales and Scotland. Delivery is priced into the quotation so there is no separate charge added later.

Do you take a deposit?

Not before the measured survey. A deposit is only requested once the survey is complete and you have approved the final schedule and price.

Can you match an existing profile?

Yes. If you can supply a section, a photograph with a rule in shot, or an old unit, we can replicate the profile. For conservation work this is usually the condition the planning officer will apply.

Can you price from drawings?

Yes. Send a drawing set or a schedule and we will price against it. If anything is ambiguous we will query it before quoting rather than assume and reprice later.
