Bespoke staircases in Arundel
Ask three firms about Handrails and Balustrades in Arundel and you will get three different answers. Most of what we survey locally is Sussex flint cottages, Regency seafront terraces and postwar new town housing, which is not built to any modern module. Because of strong coastal exposure with salt spray inland of the shoreline, we see finish erosion on seaward elevations within a few years of coating more often here than in most of the country. What you are paying for is continuous handrails whose wreaths and volutes flow without a visible break.
Manufacture only starts once the survey figures are agreed with you in writing. One call is usually enough for us to tell you roughly where the price will land.
One thing that catches people out here: seafront properties need a shorter recoating cycle than inland equivalents.

Learn more →Rise, going and headroom in Arundel
Three numbers decide whether a staircase is comfortable or awkward, and they are the first things we measure.
Rise
Maximum 220mm per step for a private stair under Part K. Consistent to within 5mm across the whole flight, because the foot notices what the eye does not.
Going
Minimum 220mm. Rise and going together must satisfy the pitch rule, which is why a flight cannot simply be shortened to fit a smaller opening.
Headroom
2m measured vertically from the pitch line. This is the constraint that most often forces a winder instead of a straight flight.
What clients tell us
Feedback collected directly from completed projects. Full written references are available on request before you commit.
“The headroom was tight and they redesigned the winder rather than telling us it could not be done.”
Verified client, West Sussex“Dry-assembled in the workshop first, so installation day was genuinely uneventful.”
Verified client, West Sussex“No squeaks at all a year on, which was the whole reason we replaced the old one.”

Can you work on a listed building?
Yes, and a significant share of our work is listed or conservation area. We can supply drawings and section details to support a listed building consent or planning application, though the consent itself remains the owner's responsibility.
How long does a typical order take?
Most made-to-size orders run six to ten weeks from survey to delivery. Conservation and heavily detailed work can take longer, and we confirm the lead time in writing at quotation rather than leaving it open.
Do you take a deposit?
Not before the measured survey. A deposit is only requested once the survey is complete and you have approved the final schedule and price.
What if the opening is out of square?
Most older openings are. The survey records the actual dimensions at several points and the unit is manufactured to suit, which is the main reason we survey rather than work from the sizes given over the phone.
What guarantee do you provide?
Ten years on workmanship, covering manufacture and the factory-applied finish. Where we install, the installation is covered too. It is issued in writing with the handover paperwork.
