Bespoke staircases in Barnet
The Staircase Renovation we make for Barnet is set out from a survey, not a size chart. Around here it is Victorian and Edwardian terraces, mansion blocks and post-war infill, and that alone rules out anything bought by the pallet. Because of high pollution load and sheltered urban humidity, we see paint failure on south-facing sashes and rot at the bottom rail more often here than in most of the country. This is really a job about curing movement and squeak rather than just covering it over.
We check on site before committing anything to the saw, and we query what does not add up. Ask us for a figure and you will get one, with the lead time stated alongside it.
One thing that catches people out here: large numbers of properties sit in conservation areas with like-for-like replacement conditions.

Learn more →Rise, going and headroom in Barnet
Three numbers decide whether a staircase is comfortable or awkward, and they are the first things we measure.
Rise
Maximum 220mm per step for a private stair under Part K. Consistent to within 5mm across the whole flight, because the foot notices what the eye does not.
Going
Minimum 220mm. Rise and going together must satisfy the pitch rule, which is why a flight cannot simply be shortened to fit a smaller opening.
Headroom
2m measured vertically from the pitch line. This is the constraint that most often forces a winder instead of a straight flight.
What clients tell us
Feedback collected directly from completed projects. Full written references are available on request before you commit.
“The headroom was tight and they redesigned the winder rather than telling us it could not be done.”
Verified client, Greater London“Dry-assembled in the workshop first, so installation day was genuinely uneventful.”
Verified client, Greater London“No squeaks at all a year on, which was the whole reason we replaced the old one.”

What guarantee do you provide?
Ten years on workmanship, covering manufacture and the factory-applied finish. Where we install, the installation is covered too. It is issued in writing with the handover paperwork.
Do you deliver nationwide?
Yes, we deliver across England, Wales and Scotland. Delivery is priced into the quotation so there is no separate charge added later.
Can you match an existing profile?
Yes. If you can supply a section, a photograph with a rule in shot, or an old unit, we can replicate the profile. For conservation work this is usually the condition the planning officer will apply.
Can you work on a listed building?
Yes, and a significant share of our work is listed or conservation area. We can supply drawings and section details to support a listed building consent or planning application, though the consent itself remains the owner's responsibility.
What if the opening is out of square?
Most older openings are. The survey records the actual dimensions at several points and the unit is manufactured to suit, which is the main reason we survey rather than work from the sizes given over the phone.
