Bespoke staircases in Swansea
Cut String Staircases across Swansea tends to be driven by the condition of what is already there. Because the area is mainly valleys terraces, Victorian maritime villas and civic Portland stone frontages, no two openings measure quite the same. The weather does the rest: very high rainfall with strong Atlantic and Bristol Channel exposure here, and prolonged wetting decay and finish failure on valley-facing elevations as the predictable result. This is really a job about the cut string profile, where any inaccuracy shows immediately.
Nothing goes into manufacture until a surveyor has checked each opening on site. Tell us the problem rather than the solution and we will advise on both.
Local factor worth flagging early: valleys terraces share a repeating bay and sash format that suits batch manufacture.

Learn more →Rise, going and headroom in Swansea
Three numbers decide whether a staircase is comfortable or awkward, and they are the first things we measure.
Rise
Maximum 220mm per step for a private stair under Part K. Consistent to within 5mm across the whole flight, because the foot notices what the eye does not.
Going
Minimum 220mm. Rise and going together must satisfy the pitch rule, which is why a flight cannot simply be shortened to fit a smaller opening.
Headroom
2m measured vertically from the pitch line. This is the constraint that most often forces a winder instead of a straight flight.
What clients tell us
Feedback collected directly from completed projects. Full written references are available on request before you commit.
“The headroom was tight and they redesigned the winder rather than telling us it could not be done.”
Verified client, Cardiff and South Wales“Dry-assembled in the workshop first, so installation day was genuinely uneventful.”
Verified client, Cardiff and South Wales“No squeaks at all a year on, which was the whole reason we replaced the old one.”

Do you work in hardwood or softwood?
Both. Engineered hardwood is the default where movement or exposure is a concern, and slow-grown softwood is often the better value choice for painted work in sheltered positions. We will tell you which we would specify and why.
Can you price from drawings?
Yes. Send a drawing set or a schedule and we will price against it. If anything is ambiguous we will query it before quoting rather than assume and reprice later.
How do you handle glazing?
Standard double glazed units for most work, and slim-cavity units where a conservation officer has restricted sightlines. Single glazing with putty lines is available where the consent requires it.
What guarantee do you provide?
Ten years on workmanship, covering manufacture and the factory-applied finish. Where we install, the installation is covered too. It is issued in writing with the handover paperwork.
Can you match an existing profile?
Yes. If you can supply a section, a photograph with a rule in shot, or an old unit, we can replicate the profile. For conservation work this is usually the condition the planning officer will apply.
