Cut String Staircases across Dorset

Cut String Staircases in Dorset rewards patience at the setting-out stage. Local stock is dominated by Purbeck stone cottages, Victorian resort villas and thatched inland villages, which sets the sizes and profiles we work to. Add exposed Channel coast with intense salt and UV load to that and rapid finish failure and fixings corrosion within a few seasons on seafront stock becomes the usual trigger for replacement. Everything we do here comes back to the cut string profile, where any inaccuracy shows immediately.

Nothing is ordered until someone has stood in front of the opening with a tape. Send us sizes and a photograph and we will come back with a fixed written price.

A detail specific to this area: Jurassic Coast properties need stainless fixings as standard, not an upgrade.

Frequently asked questions

Do you cover Dorset?

Yes. We cover the whole of Dorset including Bournemouth, Poole, Weymouth, Dorchester and the surrounding villages. Jurassic Coast properties need stainless fixings as standard, not an upgrade. Because exposed Channel coast with intense salt and UV load, we allow for it at survey stage rather than discovering it on the day.

Do you deliver nationwide?

Yes, we deliver across England, Wales and Scotland. Delivery is priced into the quotation so there is no separate charge added later.

How long does a typical order take?

Most made-to-size orders run six to ten weeks from survey to delivery. Conservation and heavily detailed work can take longer, and we confirm the lead time in writing at quotation rather than leaving it open.

Is the timber certified?

All our stock is FSC certified and chain-of-custody documentation is supplied with the order, which most main contractors and specifiers now require for their records.

Do you take a deposit?

Not before the measured survey. A deposit is only requested once the survey is complete and you have approved the final schedule and price.
