Bespoke staircases in Cannock

The Loft Conversion Stairs we make for Cannock is set out from a survey, not a size chart. Property here runs to pottery-era terraces, estate cottages and moorland stone housing, and each of those brings its own set of dimensions. Because of cold upland exposure in the Moorlands and damp valley air in the Potteries, we see sill and cill decay where render meets timber on unventilated details more often here than in most of the country. The detail we will not compromise on is fitting a compliant flight into an opening that barely allows one.

Nothing goes into manufacture until a surveyor has checked each opening on site. Tell us the problem rather than the solution and we will advise on both.

One local point to factor in: moorland properties need heavier sections than lowland equivalents.

What we cover locally

Survey visits in Cannock are usually booked within a week. There is no charge for the survey and no obligation to proceed.

Rise, going and headroom in Cannock

Three numbers decide whether a staircase is comfortable or awkward, and they are the first things we measure.

Rise

Maximum 220mm per step for a private stair under Part K. Consistent to within 5mm across the whole flight, because the foot notices what the eye does not.

Going

Minimum 220mm. Rise and going together must satisfy the pitch rule, which is why a flight cannot simply be shortened to fit a smaller opening.

Headroom

2m measured vertically from the pitch line. This is the constraint that most often forces a winder instead of a straight flight.

What clients tell us

Feedback collected directly from completed projects. Full written references are available on request before you commit.

“The headroom was tight and they redesigned the winder rather than telling us it could not be done.”

Verified client, Staffordshire

“Dry-assembled in the workshop first, so installation day was genuinely uneventful.”

Verified client, Staffordshire

“No squeaks at all a year on, which was the whole reason we replaced the old one.”

Cannock questions

Do you work in hardwood or softwood?

Both. Engineered hardwood is the default where movement or exposure is a concern, and slow-grown softwood is often the better value choice for painted work in sheltered positions. We will tell you which we would specify and why.

Do you deliver nationwide?

Yes, we deliver across England, Wales and Scotland. Delivery is priced into the quotation so there is no separate charge added later.

Do you take a deposit?

Not before the measured survey. A deposit is only requested once the survey is complete and you have approved the final schedule and price.

Can you match an existing profile?

Yes. If you can supply a section, a photograph with a rule in shot, or an old unit, we can replicate the profile. For conservation work this is usually the condition the planning officer will apply.

Can you price from drawings?

Yes. Send a drawing set or a schedule and we will price against it. If anything is ambiguous we will query it before quoting rather than assume and reprice later.
