Bespoke staircases in Falkirk
If Cantilever Staircases in Falkirk were straightforward, there would be a stock size for it. The building stock is sandstone tenements, Georgian New Town terraces and post-war housing schemes, so we expect variation before we ever pick up a tape. The weather does the rest: cold wet winters with strong westerly exposure here, and sash and case failure in tenement stock and cill decay at stone junctions as the predictable result. Where we put the effort is the hidden steelwork that makes a floating tread genuinely safe.
We survey before anything is cut, so the schedule reflects the opening as built rather than as drawn. Photographs and approximate sizes are all we need to start.
One local point to factor in: Scottish sash and case construction differs from English box sash and needs matching.

Learn more →Rise, going and headroom in Falkirk
Three numbers decide whether a staircase is comfortable or awkward, and they are the first things we measure.
Rise
Maximum 220mm per step for a private stair under Part K. Consistent to within 5mm across the whole flight, because the foot notices what the eye does not.
Going
Minimum 220mm. Rise and going together must satisfy the pitch rule, which is why a flight cannot simply be shortened to fit a smaller opening.
Headroom
2m measured vertically from the pitch line. This is the constraint that most often forces a winder instead of a straight flight.
What clients tell us
Feedback collected directly from completed projects. Full written references are available on request before you commit.
“The headroom was tight and they redesigned the winder rather than telling us it could not be done.”
Verified client, Scotland Central Belt“Dry-assembled in the workshop first, so installation day was genuinely uneventful.”
Verified client, Scotland Central Belt“No squeaks at all a year on, which was the whole reason we replaced the old one.”

Can you match an existing profile?
Yes. If you can supply a section, a photograph with a rule in shot, or an old unit, we can replicate the profile. For conservation work this is usually the condition the planning officer will apply.
Can you price from drawings?
Yes. Send a drawing set or a schedule and we will price against it. If anything is ambiguous we will query it before quoting rather than assume and reprice later.
Can you work on a listed building?
Yes, and a significant share of our work is listed or conservation area. We can supply drawings and section details to support a listed building consent or planning application, though the consent itself remains the owner's responsibility.
Is the timber certified?
All our stock is FSC certified and chain-of-custody documentation is supplied with the order, which most main contractors and specifiers now require for their records.
What if the opening is out of square?
Most older openings are. The survey records the actual dimensions at several points and the unit is manufactured to suit, which is the main reason we survey rather than work from the sizes given over the phone.
