Bespoke staircases in Banbury

Cut String Staircases in Banbury is rarely a catalogue job. You will find mostly Cotswold stone cottages, Georgian college-town terraces and new-build fringe estates in this area, and it moves as it ages. river-valley mist and prolonged autumn damp sets the pace of decay, and rot behind stone reveals where water tracks in at the joint is how it shows up first. Our focus on this is the cut string profile, where any inaccuracy shows immediately.

Every job is measured on site first, because drawn sizes and built sizes are seldom the same. Photographs and approximate sizes are all we need to start.

Local factor worth flagging early: listed and curtilage-listed properties are unusually common in the historic centres.

What we cover locally

Survey visits in Banbury are usually booked within a week. There is no charge for the survey and no obligation to proceed.

Rise, going and headroom in Banbury

Three numbers decide whether a staircase is comfortable or awkward, and they are the first things we measure.

Rise

Maximum 220mm per step for a private stair under Part K. Consistent to within 5mm across the whole flight, because the foot notices what the eye does not.

Going

Minimum 220mm. Rise and going together must satisfy the pitch rule, which is why a flight cannot simply be shortened to fit a smaller opening.

Headroom

2m measured vertically from the pitch line. This is the constraint that most often forces a winder instead of a straight flight.

What clients tell us

Feedback collected directly from completed projects. Full written references are available on request before you commit.

“The headroom was tight and they redesigned the winder rather than telling us it could not be done.”

“Dry-assembled in the workshop first, so installation day was genuinely uneventful.”

“No squeaks at all a year on, which was the whole reason we replaced the old one.”

Banbury questions

How long does a typical order take?

Most made-to-size orders run six to ten weeks from survey to delivery. Conservation and heavily detailed work can take longer, and we confirm the lead time in writing at quotation rather than leaving it open.

Will the finish need maintaining?

A factory-applied microporous finish typically needs inspection every three to five years, sooner on exposed coastal elevations. Maintaining it is far cheaper than letting a coating fail and the timber take up water.

What guarantee do you provide?

Ten years on workmanship, covering manufacture and the factory-applied finish. Where we install, the installation is covered too. It is issued in writing with the handover paperwork.

Do you work in hardwood or softwood?

Both. Engineered hardwood is the default where movement or exposure is a concern, and slow-grown softwood is often the better value choice for painted work in sheltered positions. We will tell you which we would specify and why.

Do you deliver nationwide?

Yes, we deliver across England, Wales and Scotland. Delivery is priced into the quotation so there is no separate charge added later.
