Bespoke staircases in Bootle
Most Handrails and Balustrades enquiries we take in Bootle start with an opening that is not a standard size. The housing here is largely Georgian merchant housing, dockland terraces and Victorian resort villas, and that shapes what will actually fit. The weather does the rest: Irish Sea exposure with salt-laden prevailing wind here, and salt-accelerated finish breakdown on west-facing elevations as the predictable result. The detail we will not compromise on is continuous handrails whose wreaths and volutes flow without a visible break.
The measuring is done by the people responsible for the fit, which concentrates the mind. We will price it properly in writing, and we will tell you if it is not worth doing.
One local point to factor in: Liverpool's Georgian quarter carries strict conservation-area window controls.

Learn more →Rise, going and headroom in Bootle
Three numbers decide whether a staircase is comfortable or awkward, and they are the first things we measure.
Rise
Maximum 220mm per step for a private stair under Part K. Consistent to within 5mm across the whole flight, because the foot notices what the eye does not.
Going
Minimum 220mm. Rise and going together must satisfy the pitch rule, which is why a flight cannot simply be shortened to fit a smaller opening.
Headroom
2m measured vertically from the pitch line. This is the constraint that most often forces a winder instead of a straight flight.
What clients tell us
Feedback collected directly from completed projects. Full written references are available on request before you commit.
“The headroom was tight and they redesigned the winder rather than telling us it could not be done.”
Verified client, Merseyside“Dry-assembled in the workshop first, so installation day was genuinely uneventful.”
Verified client, Merseyside“No squeaks at all a year on, which was the whole reason we replaced the old one.”
Verified client, MerseysideBootle questions
Can you price from drawings?
Yes. Send a drawing set or a schedule and we will price against it. If anything is ambiguous we will query it before quoting rather than assume and reprice later.
Do you work in hardwood or softwood?
Both. Engineered hardwood is the default where movement or exposure is a concern, and slow-grown softwood is often the better value choice for painted work in sheltered positions. We will tell you which we would specify and why.
Do you fit, or supply only?
Both. Supply-only is common for trade and contractor clients. For private clients we usually recommend supply and fit, because responsibility for the fit and the finish then sits in one place.
Can you work on a listed building?
Yes, and a significant share of our work is listed or conservation area. We can supply drawings and section details to support a listed building consent or planning application, though the consent itself remains the owner's responsibility.
Do you deliver nationwide?
Yes, we deliver across England, Wales and Scotland. Delivery is priced into the quotation so there is no separate charge added later.
