Bespoke staircases in Berkhamsted
Staircase Renovation across Berkhamsted tends to be driven by the condition of what is already there. The building stock is garden city stock, Georgian market town frontages and commuter-belt detached housing, so we expect variation before we ever pick up a tape. moderate rainfall with cold inland frosts is the local complication, and frost damage to end grain and swelling on unbalanced-finished units is what it eventually causes. This is really a job about curing movement and squeak rather than just covering it over.
The survey happens before manufacture, which is why our units fit without packing or trimming. Send what you have, even if it is only a phone photo, and we will take it from there.
One local point to factor in: garden city areas carry design codes that restrict window style changes.

Three numbers decide whether a staircase is comfortable or awkward, and they are the first things we measure.
Rise
Maximum 220mm per step for a private stair under Part K. Consistent to within 5mm across the whole flight, because the foot notices what the eye does not.
Going
Minimum 220mm. Rise and going together must satisfy the pitch rule, which is why a flight cannot simply be shortened to fit a smaller opening.
Headroom
2m measured vertically from the pitch line. This is the constraint that most often forces a winder instead of a straight flight.
What clients tell us
Feedback collected directly from completed projects. Full written references are available on request before you commit.
“The headroom was tight and they redesigned the winder rather than telling us it could not be done.”
Verified client, Hertfordshire“Dry-assembled in the workshop first, so installation day was genuinely uneventful.”
Verified client, Hertfordshire“No squeaks at all a year on, which was the whole reason we replaced the old one.”

Can you price from drawings?
Yes. Send a drawing set or a schedule and we will price against it. If anything is ambiguous we will query it before quoting rather than assume and reprice later.
What guarantee do you provide?
Ten years on workmanship, covering manufacture and the factory-applied finish. Where we install, the installation is covered too. It is issued in writing with the handover paperwork.
What if the opening is out of square?
Most older openings are. The survey records the actual dimensions at several points and the unit is manufactured to suit, which is the main reason we survey rather than work from the sizes given over the phone.
Do you take a deposit?
Not before the measured survey. A deposit is only requested once the survey is complete and you have approved the final schedule and price.
How long does a typical order take?
Most made-to-size orders run six to ten weeks from survey to delivery. Conservation and heavily detailed work can take longer, and we confirm the lead time in writing at quotation rather than leaving it open.
