Bespoke staircases in Long Eaton

Loft Conversion Stairs is one of those jobs in Long Eaton where the survey decides everything. Most of what we survey locally is Peak District gritstone cottages, mill housing and Georgian spa stock, which is not built to any modern module. The weather does the rest: upland cold with heavy snow loading and hard frost here, and frost heave damage and swelling on unbalanced-finish joinery as the predictable result. The value is in fitting a compliant flight into an opening that barely allows one, not in the timber bill.

Nothing is ordered until someone has stood in front of the opening with a tape. Tell us what you are working with and we will put a fixed figure in writing.

One local point to factor in: Peak Park properties face some of the tightest external alteration controls in England.

What we cover locally

Survey visits in Long Eaton are usually booked within a week. There is no charge for the survey and no obligation to proceed.

Rise, going and headroom in Long Eaton

Three numbers decide whether a staircase is comfortable or awkward, and they are the first things we measure.

Rise

Maximum 220mm per step for a private stair under Part K. Consistent to within 5mm across the whole flight, because the foot notices what the eye does not.

Going

Minimum 220mm. Rise and going together must satisfy the pitch rule, which is why a flight cannot simply be shortened to fit a smaller opening.

Headroom

2m measured vertically from the pitch line. This is the constraint that most often forces a winder instead of a straight flight.

What clients tell us

Feedback collected directly from completed projects. Full written references are available on request before you commit.

“The headroom was tight and they redesigned the winder rather than telling us it could not be done.”

Verified client, Derbyshire

“Dry-assembled in the workshop first, so installation day was genuinely uneventful.”

Verified client, Derbyshire

“No squeaks at all a year on, which was the whole reason we replaced the old one.”

Long Eaton questions

What if the opening is out of square?

Most older openings are. The survey records the actual dimensions at several points and the unit is manufactured to suit, which is the main reason we survey rather than work from the sizes given over the phone.

What guarantee do you provide?

Ten years on workmanship, covering manufacture and the factory-applied finish. Where we install, the installation is covered too. It is issued in writing with the handover paperwork.

Can you price from drawings?

Yes. Send a drawing set or a schedule and we will price against it. If anything is ambiguous we will query it before quoting rather than assume and reprice later.

Do you fit, or supply only?

Both. Supply-only is common for trade and contractor clients. For private clients we usually recommend supply and fit, because responsibility for the fit and the finish then sits in one place.

Do you deliver nationwide?

Yes, we deliver across England, Wales and Scotland. Delivery is priced into the quotation so there is no separate charge added later.
