Bespoke staircases in Marlow

Handrails and Balustrades around Marlow is a different job from one street to the next. Property here runs to Chiltern brick-and-flint cottages alongside large modern estates, and each of those brings its own set of dimensions. Locally you are contending with chalk-valley damp with cold air pooling overnight, so persistent condensation staining and cill rot on older single-glazed units is the fault we are called out to. This is really a job about continuous handrails whose wreaths and volutes flow without a visible break.

Nothing is ordered until someone has stood in front of the opening with a tape. Ask us for a figure and you will get one, with the lead time stated alongside it.

A detail specific to this area: AONB designation across much of the county tightens external alteration consent.

What we cover locally

Survey visits in Marlow are usually booked within a week. There is no charge for the survey and no obligation to proceed.

Rise, going and headroom in Marlow

Three numbers decide whether a staircase is comfortable or awkward, and they are the first things we measure.

Rise

Maximum 220mm per step for a private stair under Part K. Consistent to within 5mm across the whole flight, because the foot notices what the eye does not.

Going

Minimum 220mm. Rise and going together must satisfy the pitch rule, which is why a flight cannot simply be shortened to fit a smaller opening.

Headroom

2m measured vertically from the pitch line. This is the constraint that most often forces a winder instead of a straight flight.

What clients tell us

Feedback collected directly from completed projects. Full written references are available on request before you commit.

“The headroom was tight and they redesigned the winder rather than telling us it could not be done.”

Verified client, Buckinghamshire

“Dry-assembled in the workshop first, so installation day was genuinely uneventful.”

Verified client, Buckinghamshire

“No squeaks at all a year on, which was the whole reason we replaced the old one.”

Marlow questions

Can you work on a listed building?

Yes, and a significant share of our work is listed or conservation area. We can supply drawings and section details to support a listed building consent or planning application, though the consent itself remains the owner's responsibility.

Can you price from drawings?

Yes. Send a drawing set or a schedule and we will price against it. If anything is ambiguous we will query it before quoting rather than assume and reprice later.

Can you match an existing profile?

Yes. If you can supply a section, a photograph with a rule in shot, or an old unit, we can replicate the profile. For conservation work this is usually the condition the planning officer will apply.

Do you take a deposit?

Not before the measured survey. A deposit is only requested once the survey is complete and you have approved the final schedule and price.

Do you deliver nationwide?

Yes, we deliver across England, Wales and Scotland. Delivery is priced into the quotation so there is no separate charge added later.
